Located an 8-minute walk from Christchurch Airport or 20-minute drive from central Christchurch. See, touch, feel and fall in love with Antarctica at the International Antarctic Centre where a slice of this astounding continent can be experienced. Brave an Antarctic storm, go off-road in a Hagglund Antarctic vehicle ride, befriend a husky dog, enjoy the 4D theatre experience and mingle with the little blue penguins. Get ready to embark on a journey 13.8 billion years in the making. A treat for the senses, the Dark Sky Experience brings science, Māori heritage and fascinating multi-media installations together in a ‘Big Bang’ of awe and inspiration. At Dark Sky Project, manuhiri (visitors) are connected to New Zealand’s night skies, igniting a lifelong passion for dark sky preservation and what lies above. Located in Tekapo at the Dark Sky Project Base ,situated between Queenstown and Christchurch approximately a three hour drive from both cities. Set on the main highway, it is one of the most accessible Dark Sky Reserves in the world and the drive offers some of the most spectacular scenery in New Zealand.
With scheduled 45 minute tour departures, this is a thought-provoking, educational and entertaining indoor experience suitable for all ages.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITES

(1) GLACIER EXPLORER

Depart Mt Cook Village on a bus trip to Tasman Valley followed by a 25 minute alpine walk to board a boat tour like no other. Surrounded by snow-capped alps, you will be expertly guided through the ice age as you view the gigantic Tasman Glacier Ice wall. Explore and learn about the ever-changing glacial landscape and listen to the huge ice-face melting in this peaceful glacial lake. Icebergs of every shape and size periodically tear away from the face of the glacier into the rapidly growing lake. This is one of the few accessible glacial lakes containing icebergs in the world. Duration 2.5 hours.

(2) TASMAN GLACIER HELI HIKE

Departing from Mt Cook Airport, you’ll fly over the gorgeous Tasman Glacier Lake and ice formations to New Zealand’s longest glacier and land 3000m above sea level. Venture on to the surprisingly undulating ice terrain in the shadow of the highest peaks of the Southern Alps equipped with glacier boots and crampons and spend the next two hours in a magical world in the mountains. On the return flight, fly close by the massive Hochstetter Icefall on the eastern face of Aoraki, Mt Cook. Duration: 3 hours. Pickup is available from Mount Cook Village.

Embrace the dramatic vast landscape of a rugged land of ice and rock that showcases multiple giant peaks including New Zealand's highest mountain.  Then hug the shores of beautiful Lake Pukaki before travelling through the historic Central Otago region to Queenstown.

Tekapo/Mt Cook Region - Queenstown: 255/265km (approx 3hrs, 15mins)

OPTIONAL ACTIVITES: GONDOLA RIDE + 3 LUGE

Located within walking distance of the town centre, Skyline Gondola cable cars take you high above Queenstown for the very best views in the region. Take control of a Luge cart winding down the mountain course at your own pace, gentle and leisurely or fast and adventurous. Return to the top by chairlift and do it over and over again, once is never enough. (Pregnant guests are not permitted to Luge).

Fiordland is one of the world’s last great wildernesses.  Today's stunning journey takes you past mirror lakes, spectacular waterfalls and water-sculpted rocks. Venture into Milford Sound, a New Zealand treasure carved by ice age glaciers and famously described as the eighth wonder of the world. After a big day out, reflect on memories of a lifetime on your return to Queenstown. Overnight: Queenstown

DART RIVER FUNYAK

This Funyak adventure begins in Glenorchy, a beautifully scenic 45 minute drive from Queenstown. Start with an exhilarating jet boat ride up the Dart River deep into the heart of Mount Aspiring National Park. Your expert guide will then lead you back downstream paddling your own unique Funyak inflatable canoe. Explore channels and side-streams in this spectacular wilderness location and take a break at the rivers’ edge to enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch while you take in the sounds of the native birds and the serenity of the native beech forest. Finish this epic adventure by jumping aboard a 4WD coach to travel through some renowned filming locations including Lord of the Rings. No previous experience necessary. Allow 9 hours. Complimentary return bus service is provided from the Queenstown depot to/from Glenorchy.

KAWARAU BRIDGE BUNGY

As you shuffle out to the edge of the bridge, heart pounding and mind racing, remember this – you’ve found yourself at the World Home of Bungy. This is the original. Many people have come and gone, on a mission to push the limits and test themselves. Time for you to make the same leap of faith. No visit to Queenstown would be complete without a stop at the Kawarau Bungy Centre, The World Home of Bungy, opened in 1988. Nestled into a rock face overlooking the stunning Kawarau River, the view alone will satisfy any crowd. Home of the world’s first and most famous of leaps, this 43 metre Bungy Jump is still the most popular Bungy site attracting thousands of thrill-seekers every year.

Return north through the powerful landscape of the Central Otago region and the dramatic scenery of the Mackenzie region to Christchurch.

Queenstown - Christchurch  485km (approx 6hrs)

Suggestion: You may choose to add a Queenstown-Christchurch domestic flight sector to continue your international flights rather than driving back to Christchurch.

Arrangements conclude today with the return of your rental car to Christchurch Airport.
